Attention to all hair stylists! Our industry is being targeted and the hacker messed with the WRONG Asian hair stylist, educator and social media influencer. It's my mission to make sure that ALL hair stylists are aware of "their" tactic. Here is what to look out for.
How the "hair stylist hacker" held my IG account for ransom money. This is what DMs YOU need to look out for. First, the message will come from one of your friends or followers. The IG account of your friend/follower is the hacker. Sometimes the hacker will make a post about Bitcoin. But sometimes the account looks very normal.
What DMs Hair Stylists need to look for?
"I'll request for the entry link and Instagram would send it to your number, all you have to do is copy it and sent it to me. That's all."
The hacker, "your friend/follower" will casually chat and ask if you could help vote for them. If you know me then you know that I would do anything for you. So when you ask for help to vote for you, I'll be the first to rally around you. Don't let your kindness turn you into a victim.
Now, looking back at these messages I feel so stupid for not realizing what was happening. I was at work, in between clients, unpacking inventory and trying to eat lunch. The screenshot of the link was "IG authentication code".
