Extension Hair Care 101

Updated: Aug 12, 2021

It starts with your SCALP

First, you have to take care of your scalp.

  • Do not shampoo for 24-48 hrs after your hair extension installation. Tape-in hair extensions will need time for the adhesive bond to stick (do not get bond wet). Beaded weft sew in hair extensions will need time for your scalp to adjust to the weight of the new hair.

HOT TIP: Brush hair before shampooing to keep hair from matting.

After 24-48 hrs, shampoo your hair with Surface Awaken Therapeutic Shampoo.

  • Awaken Shampoo features naturally derived sulfate-free cleansers from Babassu, Coconut and Palm Oil which deeply cleanse the scalp while gently cleansing the hair. It's the only shampoo that I trust for scalp health and maintaining the integrity of hair extensions.

Exfoliate your scalp with Surface Awaken Therapeutic Masque. Yes, that's correct. Exfoliate your scalp. It's important to exfoliate your scalp to remove dead skin cells, dirt and oil this allows a foundation for a healthy hair to grow.

How to manage hair extensions?

  • Air dry your hair as much as possible.

  • Apply a heat protectant and leave-in conditioner on your hair and hair extensions. Since 2015, my extension guests have been raving about Trinity Protein Repair Tonic. This has been the best protein spray for repairing damaged hair and protects hair from UV & heat damage. As far as a leave-in conditioner, the hair extensions will need moisture. Traditional leave-in conditioners are applied to wet hair and lay on top of the hair for temporary moisture, often leaving the hair feeling heavy. Bassu Moisture Mist creates 30% more moisture retention than traditional leave-in conditioners by replacing hair's moisture with light weight Babassu Oil and Moringa's free radical protection. Thermal styling (flat iron or curling iron) Bassu Moisture Mist presses and bonds the moisture into the hair.

  • Use low heat especially near the bonds.

  • Dry in a downward motion to keep the cuticle smooth.

  • Dry shampoo is your new best friend. Fewer shampoos keep extensions looking great. Maintain your blowout with Trinity Dry Shampoo.

HOT TIP: Re blow-dry your next day hair without getting it wet. Apply Trinity Dry Shampoo at the roots and then blow dry. Trinity Dry Shampoo is a fresh, clear dry shampoo that naturally absorbs dirt and oil, kicks up the volume and shine, leaving zero residue behind.

Enjoy your new hair extensions and protect your investment. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions.
